Question:

What loan officer qualifications are required?

Answer:

Loan officer qualifications will usually include a degree in economics or finance, loan officer license, good people skills, and often additional loan officer certification to advance in the career.

A loan officer may not necessarily cover the education qualification requirements. Experience as a teller or as a customer service rep will be enough to get you started in the loan officer career. Although college degree is preferable, it is not obligatory.

A loan officer license is good to have, but it may not be required for loan officers working in banks and unions. Most important qualification in the loan officer profession is having positive attitude and sales ability. Ability to act in a team and high level of confidence and motivation are also welcome for the profession.

Many additional loan officer certifications and programs are available from different private schools. While getting additional certificates is not required, any additional qualifications will help you advance in your loan officer career.
