The HUD application for affordable housing applies to three programs. While HUD does not fund directly renters or homeowners, affordable housing funds are extended to local charities and states.

HUD Application to Housing Programs

Low and very low income households should make a HUD application to a local branch of the HOME Program.

SHOP is a HUD program designed to provide funds to non-profit organizations to purchase and improve affordable homes to low income families.

The Homeownership Zone program allows vacant run-down properties to be reclaimed and revitalizes entire neighborhoods with new single-unit homes. Neighborhood communities submitting HUD application for Homeownership Zone funds are encouraged to apply urbanist designs when creating street environment of the neighborhood. Funds for the Homeownership Zone program have been discontinued for several years.
